Sunday , the Pastor of 1st Baptist of Lockport Isaac Dantin shared an interesting message and used a text that’s common but he had a unique approach to it. The passage was 1 Peter 5:8 says “Be alert and of a sober mind- Your enemy “The Devil” prowls around like a roaring lion- looking for someone to devour..” After he quoted this passage – he put emphasis and created a picture with his words based on the passage of a Lion stalking a gazelle- he created a mental picture with his words step by step. You could almost see the picture as he described the image. He talked about the Lions ability to use strategy in how he pays attention to the direction of the wind- so that the wind doesn’t blow the scent of the lion towards the direction of the gazelle- he comes from the opposite side. Pastor Isaac created a scenario of a lion using a ditch as a tool to slowly creep closer towards his prey- and although this animal which possesses incredible strength- also possesses cat like agility- how his paws which are thick enough to hide his razor sharp claws that are as strong as carbon fibre- his paws are also soft enough to not make any noise as he navigates through the grass getting closer and closer to his prey. Study’s have shown that when a lion reaches his point of attack – they mostly always go for the Jugular. Once the jugular vein is cut or ripped – it leads to death by lost of too much blood and on top of that the animal becomes weak because its not enough oxygen to feed the brain as his blood flows from his body rapidly…

I’m intrigued how the writer Peter compared the strategy of how a lion attacks its prey to how the devil attacks our destiny , and our very life- even the scriptures teaches that the “The Life is in the Blood” according to Leviticus 17:11. He gives the instructions “Be alert always, Be vigilant, Keep a sober mind- verse 9 of 1 Peter goes on to say , Resist Him and stand firm in the faith emphasizing that we have to be willing to fight the good fight of faith – in order to do that – we have to know in whom we believe and What we believe. I believe The Lord has given every last one of us an assignment that we must protect – It is on us to make sure that our spiritual jugular is covered and protected, that we are alert and sober minded enough to where our senses can identify and detect when danger is near and navigate accordingly. Stay sober and alert, with a willingness to resist and Stand Firm..
